In a significant development, the Maharashtra Common Entrance Test (CET) Cell has announced the first-ever Common Entrance Test for admission to Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA), Bachelor of Management Studies (BMS), Bachelor of Computer Applications (BCA), and Bachelor of Business Management (BBM) courses in the state. The exam is scheduled to take place on May 29, as per the revised schedule released by the state’s CET cell on Wednesday.
This move comes as these professional undergraduate courses have been brought under the purview of the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE). Previously, admissions to these courses were based on marks obtained in Class XII. However, with the change, admissions will now be through the CET.
Close to 57,000 students from across the state have registered for the CET, indicating a strong interest and demand for these courses. Despite the new regulations, some colleges have expressed opposition and have taken legal action against the decision to bring these courses under the AICTE. Additionally, colleges are working with universities to potentially change the nomenclatures of the courses to bypass the AICTE approval mandate.
This decision has sparked a debate among colleges and educational institutions, with many awaiting resolution before proceeding with admissions. The principal of a city college offering BMS highlighted the potential solution of renaming the course to B. Com. (Management Studies) to avoid the AICTE approval mandate and continue admissions as per the regular practice.
The revised dates for a total of 8 CETs have been declared by the CET Cell for admission to various courses, indicating a comprehensive approach to the admission process in Maharashtra.
