The Xiaomi Product Launch event on Wednesday started with the company’s India MD Manu Kumar Jain on the stage, who started by recapping the last few months for the company in the country. He reiterated that Xiaomi has been the number one smartphone brand in India for the last eight quarters.
Jain also revealed that Xiaomi has been the biggest online smartphone brand for 11 quarters with 46 percent market share. Jain then moved to discuss Xiaomi’s offline presence in the country. He announced that Xiaomi now has 2,000 Mi Stores across the country in small towns and villages. He then invited Xiaomi’s Raghu Reddy to detail the Mi A3.
Reddy began by talking about Mi A series’ history in India. Xiaomi has launched two Android One phones under the Mi A series – Mi A1 and Mi A2, apart from the Mi A3 that is being introduced today. He then moved to Mi A3, which uses a new Helix Wave pattern (specific to Blue variant) on the back.
The phone will be offered in three colours – Not Just Blue, More Than White, Kind of Grey. It uses Corning Gorilla Glass 5 on both front and back. Mi A3 is also slimmer than the Mi A2. Reddy said that the reduced width of the phone makes it easier to handle. Mi A3 sports a 6.08-inch HD+ Dot Notch screen with a Super AMOLED panel and comes with an in-display fingerprint sensor.
On the camera front, the Mi A3 comes with a triple rear camera setup that houses a 48-megapixel primary Sony IMX586 sensor with an f/1.79 lens, 8-megapixel secondary sensor with a 118-degree wide-angle f/1.79 lens, and a 2-megapixel tertiary sensor for depth sensing. The smartphone also has the 32-megapixel selfie camera at the front with an f/2.0 lens.
According to Reddy, Mi A3 will pack a dedicated night mode to improve the low-light imaging experience. Additionally, the Mi A3 users will get depth of field controls in Portrait shots. Raghu Reddy then detailed the experience provided by the Mi A3. As is already known, Mi A3 is based on Android One platform.
Thanks to Android One, the Mi A3 gets support for Google Assistant, Google Photos, Google Lens, Digital Wellbeing tools, and more. The phone will be getting security updates for three years and will be among the first phones to receive Android Q. Xiaomi Mi A3 is powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 665 SoC, paired with Adreno 610 GPU, and up to 6GB of LPDDR4X RAM. It will be offered in 4GB + 64GB and 6GB + 128GB variants.
Additionally, there is 4,030 mAh battery with support for 18W fast charging, USB Type-C port, and 3.5mm audio jack. The Mi A3 also includes IR blaster, P2i coating for splash resistance, and improved audio output. Manu Kumar Jain then returned to the stage to announce the pricing of the smartphone. The Mi A3 price in India starts at Rs. 12,999 for the 4GB RAM base variant.
The 6GB RAM variant will retail at Rs. 15,999. Xiaomi will also provide a number of offers for the buyers of the Mi A3. The Mi A3 first sale will take place on August 23 at 12 noon.
